Lockheed Martin has received an $11.6 million delivery order from the U.S. Navy to support the first round of flight tests and issuance of military permit for an F-35B aircraft to launch from the U.K’.s Queen Elizabeth-class carriers.
The Defense Department said Tuesday international partner funds worth $5.7 million will be obligated at the time of award and will not expire at the current fiscal year’s conclusion.
Lockheed’s aeronautics business will perform 68 percent of work in Texas; 26 percent in Samlesbury, England; 3 percent in Florida; and 3 percent in Maryland.
Work is scheduled to be completed in March 2018.
F-35B is the short takeoff and vertical landing variant of the Lockheed-built fighter aircraft and designed to operate from air-capable ships and austere bases.
