Leidos’ Roger Krone: Georgia Tech Engineered Biosystems Facility to Seek Chronic Disease Treatments

Georgia Tech officially named the engineered biosystems building after Roger Krone, chairman and CEO of Leidos, and his wife Helen during the university’s homecoming festivities held Friday in Atlanta.

The Roger A. and Helen B. Krone Engineered Biosystems Building has a 219,000-square-foot space for offices and laboratories to facilitate research across systems biology, cell and developmental biology and chemical biology areas, the university said Tuesday.

“The research conducted at this university is pivotal for advancing the human condition,” said Krone, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017.

“We believe that the next big area for Tech is the area of engineered biosciences,” he added.

Krone noted he expects the facility to serve as a “cornerstone” to help accelerate scientific discoveries and find treatments for chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

The naming ceremony for EBB came months after the couple offered a lead gift for the facility in June.

The building initially opened in 2015 and is home to the Children’s Pediatric Technology Center.
