Penny Pritzker, former secretary of the Commerce Department, has been nominated to serve on Microsoft‘s board of directors.

The company said Monday Pritzker will be presented for election at its annual meeting for shareholders on Nov. 29 alongside Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International.

“Penny and Arne are both strong leaders with impressive accomplishments and contributions that span business and public service,” said John Thompson, independent chairman of the board at Microsoft.

As Commerce secretary, Pritzker created a new policy agenda for the department that focuses on U.S. trade and investment, innovation and data.

She currently serves as chairman of PSP Capital Partners, a private investment firm she founded.

Pritzker is also a co-founder of the Pritzker Traubert Foundation that seeks to boost economic opportunity for families in Chicago.

She is a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a member of the Aspen Strategy Group and the Aspen Economic Strategy Group as well as co-chair of the Cyber Readiness Institute.
