A Technavio report forecasts the compound annual growth rate for the global military submarine photonics mast and antenna market will reach nearly 6 percent by 2021 due to a demand for multifunctional antennas and submarine modernization efforts in the defense sector.
The research company said Thursday the cost of modular optronics mast, use of short wave infrared technology and emergence of non-hull penetrating masts are the key factors that will drive market growth during the forecast period.
Moutushi Saha, a lead defense research analyst at Technavio, said an “affordable modular panoramic photonics mast” is designed to offer a 360-degree panoramic search coverage for submarines through multiple visible and IR sensors.
Vendors featured in the report include L3 Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Safran.
