Robert Work, former deputy secretary of the Defense Department, has returned to the Center for a New American Security as distinguished senior fellow for defense and national security.
CNAS said Wednesday Work will support research initiatives, advise future national security leaders and contribute to discussions on the modern threat landscape and the future force.
He led the Washington-based think tank as CEO for one year before he assumed the position of deputy defense secretary in May 2014.
“[Work] has served America’s national security his entire life — first in uniform, at the Department of the Navy, at CNAS, and at DoD,” said CNAS CEOÂ Michele Flournoy.
He also previously served as U.S. Navy undersecretary and spent 27 years at the U.S. Marine Corps, where he held roles as senior aide and military assistant to the Navy secretary; director of strategic initiatives groups; and commanding officer of the 5th Battalion, 11th Marines.
