A Northrop Grumman subsidiary has launched a new robotic platform that complies with the Defense Department’s Interoperability Profile initiative that seeks to maintain interoperability standards for unmanned ground vehicles.
The Remotec-built Andros Nomad is a 164-pound UGV that has four independent track pods designed to climb uneven terrain and inclines up to 60 degrees and has a manipulator arm that works to lift objects of up to 15 pounds, Northrop said Monday.
The ground robot has IOP-compliant hardware and software messaging interfaces and can be integrated with payloads and sensors for various missions.
Dan Verwiel, vice president and general manager of missile defense and protective systems division at Northrop, said Andros Nomad seeks to reflect the company’s efforts to innovate and deliver value in render-safe operations.
Northrop supplies ground robots to the U.S. first responder market as well as UGVs used by service branches and bomb squads across 36 countries.
