A newly established institute of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation will invest approximately $3.5 million over the next two years to support research and development efforts on microelectronics, Government Technology reported Friday.
The Applied Research Institute will look to create microelectronics technologies that can mitigate counterfeit challenges and cyber attacks to help members of the defense sector determine potentially tampered electronic devices.
ARI was established in a push to facilitate, manage and recruit research teams as well as connect researchers with equipment, state laboratories and other facilities across the state of Indiana.
The report noted that the institute will also create a team tasked to explore other focus areas which may involve multi-spectral data fusion and security, high-density power storage and advanced material science studies.
“A return on investment for the Applied Research Institute is national recognition, or pre-eminence, in a research area and in generating innovation,” said Paul Mitchell, president and CEO of CICP’s Energy Systems Network business.
