The U.S. Army has awarded Charles River Analytics a 27-month, $1.1 million contract to develop requirements for a game-based program that would help train medical teams to perform high-intensity trauma treatment methods.
Charles River said Monday it will collaborate with Medstar Health Research Institute, HandHeld Speech and John Broach, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, to carry out the Characters Allowing Rehearsal and Assessment of Communication in Team Emergency Response effort.
The CHARACTER project seeks to employ decision support tools and sensor technology to offer an interactive training experience for users.
Charles River plans to use the annotated skill trees framework in efforts to evaluate and design tasks for inclusion in the simulation environment.
Examples of simulation under CHARACTER are MedStar Health’s Trauma Yellow three-dimensional interactive game and Charles Rivers’ STAT system designed to generate a two-dimensional picture of a patient’s physical condition.
The program also aims to shorten the time it takes for military and civilian healthcare professionals to complete medical training.
