BAE Systems has conducted initial flight tests of its see-through head-up display that works to show flight information directly in a pilot’s line of sight without blocking views.
The company said Tuesday its LiteHUD platform was flown aboard the U.S. Special Operations Command‘s AC-130J aircraft, the Textron-made Scorpion jet and BAE-built Advanced Hawk demonstrator aircraft.
LiteHUD has 60 percent less volume and about 50 percent less weight than traditional HUDs and helps pilots obtain situational awareness in day and night conditions as well as cut the risk of pilot fatigue, BAE noted.
The system is scheduled to undergo flight tests aboard two other aircraft platforms later this year.
BAE added that its customers have selected LiteHUD for use onboard trainer, light combat and fighter planes.
