20 US States, Territories Join FirstNet Public Safety Broadband Network Program - top government contractors - best government contracting eventTwenty U.S. states and territories so far have agreed to participate in the First Responder Network Authority’s collaborative project with AT&T to establish a nationwide emergency broadband network.

FirstNet aims to release updated state plans to states and territories later this month to address additional stakeholder feedback, AT&T said Friday.

The company will build and operate a wireless communications network for first responders in the next 25 years under a potential $6.5 billion contract awarded in March.

AT&T noted that states and territories can choose to opt in or opt out of the FirstNet program and will not be required to provide funds for network deployment and operations.
