Raytheon Demos AN/SPY-6 Radar in 2nd Ballistic Missile Flight Test - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon has demonstrated an air and missile defense radar platform during the second ballistic missile flight test held at the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii.

The Raytheon-built AN/SPY-6(V) radar searched and tracked a long-range ballistic missile test target as well as satellites and aircraft during the live test flight, the company said Tuesday.

The test event came months after the company conducted the first ballistic missile defense exercise in March to evaluate the radar’s capability.

The AN/SPY-6 radar program achieved Milestone C and entered low-rate initial production through a contract awarded in May for the first three ship sets.

Raytheon said the company remains on target to deliver the radar system to the Navy’s DDG 51 Flight III destroyer.

AN/SPY-6(V) is built with radar modular assemblies and works to provide situational awareness to surface combatants through detection of aerial, surface and ballistic missile threats.
