Lockheed to Develop Military Code Software for GPS Satellites - top government contractors - best government contracting eventLockheed Martin has received a $45.5 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to provide military-code early use software for current and future global positioning system satellites.

The Defense Department said Wednesday the company’s space systems business will develop the software for the service branch to task, monitor and signal M-code programs in space.

DoD noted the Space and Missile Systems Center obligated $15.3 million at the time of award from the Air Force’s fiscal 2017 research and development funds.

Work under the modification will occur in Colorado, Maryland and Pennsylvania through December 2019.

Lockheed started a $350 million construction project earlier this month to build a Gateway Center in Colorado that will support the company’s satellite manufacturing activities.
