Caroline Kennedy, former U.S. ambassador to Japan, has joined the board of directors at Boeing and she will serve on the board’s audit and finance committees.

Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing chairman, president and CEO, said in statement published Thursday that Kennedy will contribute her professional, diplomatic and global perspectives to the board’s company oversight efforts.

Kennedy previously served on various nonprofit boards and worked in public education in New York City, where she advocated for science, technology, engineering and math education opportunities for women.

She has also co-authored books on U.S. constitutional law and edited a range of historical and literary publications.

Kennedy holds a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University’s Radcliffe College and a juris doctor degree from Columbia Law School.
