Concurrent Technologies Corp. has opened at its Richland Township, Pennsylvania-based facility a new center that will work to design compact modular reactors in support of small-scale nuclear plants, GovTech.com reported Friday.

CTC President and CEO Ed Sheehan said the Center for Advanced Nuclear Manufacturing at the company’s Richland campus will employ approximately 30 people from the firm’s local labor force and partner with industry and government to advance the development of nuclear systems.

Vince Gilbert, a senior fellow with the Washington-based Nuclear Infrastructure Council, said NIC’s working group selected CTC to run the new center following a year-long review with several companies.

“We are honored to meet this demand to launch and operate the [center] and look forward to continued collaboration with the NIC’s working group, member companies, academia and other organizations,” Sheehan added.

Other officials who attended the Thursday launch include David Blee, director of the Nuclear Industry Council, and Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-Pennsylvania).
