KIPP Columbus has unveiled a Battelle-sponsored environmental center in the academic institution’s Columbus, Ohio-based campus to offer afterschool and community education programs.
The center is built through a $3 million grant the research and development company awarded in 2014, Battelle said Wednesday.
KIPP is a network of free, open enrollment public schools that provides support to students in underserved communities.
Battelle also invested an additional $1 million in KIPP to expand programming to children, families and local school districts in Columbus, including those that are not enrolled in KIPP.
The center’s afterschool and community programs will be administered by the PAST Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.
KIPP’s high school faculty will work with PAST on informal education programs for students, such as environmental design challenges.
