VTO to Support DHS Drone Forensics Research Efforts; William Bryan Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting eventVTO has received a $928,541 research and development contract from the Department of Homeland Security‘s science and technology directorate to help boost law enforcement officers’ capacity to collect and analyze evidential data from drones.

DHS said Monday that the contract supports a cyber forensics project of S&T’s Cyber Security Division which looks to create cyber forensics technologies that can help law enforcement personnel adapt to technological developments.

The project will focus on the creation of new systems that aid law enforcement officers on the analysis of digital evidence collected using various devices including mobile phones and automobile infotainment systems.

“Drones are an emerging area of interest for law enforcement because they contain data that may be key in criminal investigations,” said William Bryan, acting DHS under secretary for science and technology.

VTO will work to define and identify various data types that exist within drones and connected systems such as mobile devices and computers, drone board systems, flight controllers, network communications systems and onboard cameras.

The company will also create a website designed to offer instruction information for forensic services specialists, law enforcement officers and researchers.
