Jeff Babione, executive vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin‘s F-35 program, has said the company is in discussions with the governments of Spain, Belgium and Switzerland regarding the countries’ plans to buy fighter jets, Defense World reported Friday.
“We are starting to see other customers think about the F-35 being added to their fleet,” Babione told reporters Friday at the Avalon Airshow.
He added the company’s current foreign customers can reduce the F-35 price by $80 million per unit if they order in blocks.
President Donald Trump previously voiced his concerns about the cost of the fighter aircraft, which Defense World estimates is currently worth $94.6 million.
The report said Lockheed urged F-35 buyers to enter into three-year block buy agreements with the company to help lower costs.
