The Defense Department has partnered with SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings and NACE International to release a new standard on corrosion prevention and control planning.
“The new Corrosion Prevention and Control Planning standard will allow the DoD to facilitate the inclusion of corrosion-planning requirements in new contracts as it designs, acquires, and sustains new weapon systems and facilities,†Daniel Dunmire, director of DoD’s corrosion policy and oversight office, said in a statement released Wednesday.
“The standard also will help the government establish critical requirements, and then communicate them in a consistent way to our large base of suppliers,†Dunmire added.
He noted that the standard also includes definition of materials deterioration, application of CPC practices and technologies and CPC planning characteristics.
The standard also aims to help project and program managers customize their requirements for CPC planning through the use of checklists that seek to determine requirements for a particular initiative.
