Red Hat, Boston University Enter Tech Research & Education Partnership Agreement - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRed Hat and Boston University have signed a five-year agreement to facilitate research and educational programs focused on open source and emerging technologies such as cloud computing, machine learning, automation and big data.

The company said Wednesday it pledged up to $5 million in grants that will go toward Boston University’s Cloud Computing Initiative.

Red Hat added the partnership will facilitate research, incubated projects and fellowship and internship programs for students and visiting scientists as part of efforts to integrate academic research and with open source technology.

The agreement will also support research efforts from Red Hat and Boston University communities through the Red Hat Emerging Technology Lab at BU.

Select applicants from the university’s electrical engineering, computer engineering and computer science programs will receive funds for Ph.D. fellowships as well as opportunities to participate in paid summer internships at Red Hat under the five-year initiative.

The agreement will also support full- and part-time postdoctoral and visiting scientists for up to two years and these participants will organize a company-sponsored cloud computing colloquium that will include forums and workshops for researchers, students and industry leaders.

The effort is part of Red Hat’s multiyear collaboration with the Massachusetts Open Cloud.
