LXR amphibious warshipThe Office of Naval Research looks to explore science and technology approaches on how to utilize multi-domain unmanned systems in support of amphibious operations.

A presolicitation notice issued Thursday on the FedBizOpps website says ONR looks to develop autonomous amphibians with a capacity to maneuver through the surf zone, emerge and navigate ashore.

ONR expects potential partners to utilize current domain agnostic autonomy research to develop a system that will address issues presented by the multi-domain environment including surf, urban, mud-flats, rocky beach, beach with obstacles and beach vegetation.

The organization’s efforts have previously utilized domain agnostic, kinematics, robotics and sensing approaches to establish science and technology portfolio that supports single-domain autonomous systems in a homogeneous environment.
