cloudITA new HyTrust survey has revealed that nearly 20 percent of government agencies do not implement data security or encryption technology in the public cloud.

HyTrust said Tuesday its government cloud adoption survey includes responses from 59 government and military organizations and explores the use of public cloud vendors as well as efforts to protect data in such cloud environments.

“We see major potential for government agencies adopting cloud technology and some agencies are already seeing the benefits,” said Bill Aubin, HyTrust vice president of federal business.

“By carefully assessing the technology, policy and security requirements, agencies will be well on their way to a seamless and safe transition,” Aubin added.

The survey also found 41 percent of agencies that use public cloud apply third-party encryption instead of cloud provider platforms.

HyTrust added 29 percent of agencies have yet to use public cloud.

The survey also includes government and military preferences for public cloud providers with VMware‘s vCloud Air and Amazon Web Services as the top choices.
