Deloitte Report: Agencies Should Use Analytics to Derive Insights from Data - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA new Deloitte report says government agencies that seek to become “data-centric organizations” should develop a platform designed to collect, store and distribute mission-critical data as well as use analytics to make decisions and generate insights from data.

The “Mission analytics: Data-driven decision making in government” report also calls for agencies to develop missions that are measurable and employ feedback strategies in order to convert insights into outcomes, Deloitte said Wednesday.

“One of the notions that should be debunked is that one needs ‘perfect’ data to proceed with analytics,” said Vishal Kapur, principal at Deloitte Consulting.

“Also, the solution may not always require big data. More often, it is the small data hidden in organizational silos that provide the most valuable insights,” Kapur added.

The report also cited commitment to technological advancements, political leadership and efforts to measure performance in a transparent manner as factors that could help the federal government achieve “data-driven resource allocation.”

Deloitte said the report covers case studies from federal, state and local agencies such as the Justice Department‘s office of justice programs, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Agriculture Department‘s economic research service division.
