cyrusoneCyrusOne has kicked off the construction of a new data center in Northern Virginia during a ground-breaking ceremony at the 40-acre Kincora site the company purchased in early 2016.

The future 654,000-square-foot Sterling V data center will have access to the fiber hub in Loudoun County and connect with other CyrusOne facilities across the U.S. through the CyrusOne National Internet Exchange, CyrusOne said Friday.

Kevin Timmons, chief technology officer at CyrusOne, said the company’s expansion in Northern Virginia aims to meet a growing demand for hyper-speed and hyper-scalable data center services.

CyrusOne noted the upcoming data center works to support high-performance computing at 250 to 900 watts per square foot.

The real estate investment trust runs 35 data center facilities across the U.S., Europe and Asia.
