BAE Systems Inc. will help the U.S. Navy engineer and integrate weapons systems on board the military branch’s submarines as part of a potential five-year, $368 million contract awarded in October.
The company said Wednesday it will also provide test engineering, information technology support and specialized test equipment to the Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs office under the contract.
SSP manages the Strategic Weapons System and Attack Weapons System fielded on U.S. Ohio-class submarines and U.K. Vanguard-class submarines as well as for future Ohio replacement and U.K. Dreadnought-class submarines.
“We provide expertise to the Navy to maintain, optimize, and deploy seaborne weapons systems that serve as a strategic deterrent against major threats to the security of our nation and its allies,†said DeEtte Gray, president of the intelligence and security sector at BAE’s U.S. subsidiary.
BAE will also help SSP produce fleet documentation materials, monitor facility maintenance activities and support training programs and nuclear and conventional weapons safety efforts.
