BAE Invests in Australia Defense Tech R&D Network; Glynn Phillips Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting eventBAE Systems plans invest up to $10 million over 10 years in a collaborative network that will work to facilitate development of technologies that can support the Australian military.

BAE said Tuesday its Australian subsidiary partnered with the Universities of Adelaide and South Australia to establish the Joint Open Innovation Network with the goal to introduce university engineering scholarship, internship, job placement, defense-related courses and targeted research-and-development initiatives.

The Joint Open Innovation Network will also launch projects beginning in 2017 to support  the modernization of Jindalee Operational Radar Network and build next-generation JORN and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.

Glynn Phillips, CEO of BAE’s Australian subsidiary, said the network aims to develop technologies that will help address the requirements of Australian defense customers.

BAE will also partner with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Dedicated Systems Australia to supply equipment and training platforms to the network’s innovation laboratory.

The network also seeks to develop defense-related courses and targeted research and development strategies.

Joint Open Innovation Network is open to other academic and business organizations that want to participate in defense technology development efforts.
