BAE Systems has secured a $69 million contract from the U.S. Army to manufacture additional propellant grains for rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft rockets.
The company said Wednesday it will produce MK90 propellants at the BAE-operated Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia through October 2018.
Reed McPeak, vice president and general manager of BAE’s ordnance systems business, said the propellants are designed to help the military branch deploy munitions to protect warfighters during missions.
The MK90 grain is a component of the MK66 rocket motor and powers the Hydra 70 rocket systems currently in service with U.S. military organizations and allies.
