Wayne Lewandowski, vice president of federal operations at Vormetric, has said that cloud encryption gateways can help address security concerns on the delivery of agencies’ sensitive data to third-party cloud service providers.
Lewandowksi wrote in guest piece published Monday on GCN he also believes cloud encryption gateways can help drive rapid deployment of cloud technology in the government.
“In many ways, the use of cloud encryption gateways provides the benefits of a public cloud with the security of a private cloud,” he added.
He cited a Cloud Computing Caucus Advisory Group study that showed that 80 percent of surveyed agency technology leaders were concerned about the capacity of CSPs to provide security.
The Cloud Security Alliance recommended that agencies select a CSP that adheres to industry best practices, encrypt data before it leaves the end-user organization’s control, implement encryption for data-at-rest, data-in-transit and data-in-use and retain encryption keys, according to Lewandowksi.
