big-data2Redwood City, California-based security company Synack has secured a $2 million contract to help the Internal Revenue Service for the development of a pioneer model to protect government and taxpayer data.

The IRS awarded the sole-source contract after the agency conducted a thorough market research into the crowdsourced security market and a trial of Synack’s security testing platform, the company said Tuesday.

Synack has also released a new platform designed to help government agencies gain an adversarial perspective on the security of information technology assets.

The Crowd Security Intelligence Federal system combines the Synack Red Team‘s guidance and the Hydra vulnerability intelligence platform.

“As attackers and threats become more savvy, federal agencies are recognizing that advanced security is paramount,” said Jay Kaplan, Synack CEO and co-founder.

Kaplan added the company will also release its Synack Government platform that uses a hacker-powered approach in an effort to help government customers detect, fix and scale potential vulnerabilities through vetting and tracking of systems that support visibility and management.

The Defense Department also selected Synack and HackerOne in October to develop a contract vehicle designed to support DoD components and services on the launch of “bug bounty” programs.
