Saab has secured three orders from the U.S. Army‘s program executive office for simulation, training and instrumentation to implement interoperability updates to two of the military branch’s training systems.
The orders cover mid-life service upgrades to the 7th Army Training Command’s Deployable Instrumentation System-Europe and the Combat Vehicle Tactical Engagement Simulation System in an effort to address forward deployment interoperability requirements of the Army and its European allies, Saab said Monday.
The update will help DISE and CVTESS users to modify the training systems’ lasers based on the MILES Communication Code or OSAG 2.0 standard to support training engagements with multinational units.
The OSAG 2.0 software code is designed to generate full ballistic simulations of anti-tank and vehicle weapons’ ammunition when launched with laser transmitters.
“This upgrade presents a unique opportunity for NATO forces and U.S. Training Partners within Europe to train together by combining interoperable national systems to create a fully instrumented training environment with any configuration, scale and at any given location,†said Asa Thegstrom, head of training and simulation within Saab’s dynamics business area.
Saab will also deliver an OSAG 2.0-configured CVTESS platform for the Army’s M1 Abrams main battle tanks, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and brackets for opposing force vehicles.
DISE comprises tactical engagement simulation system lasers and detectors, exercise control, battle tracking, data collection and rapid after action review tools designed for live training activities.
