F-35 Lightning IINorthrop Grumman‘s subsidiary in Australia has received an assignment from the multinational F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program office to oversee maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade work on the multi-role aircraft.

Northrop said Friday it will offer six MRO&U services out of 10 repair technology categories that the JSF program office has assigned for the sustainment of F-35 Lightning IIs based in the Asia/Pacific region alongside team members BAE Systems, Rockwell Collins, GE Aviation Systems and Quickstep.

Ian Irving, chief executive of Northrop Grumman Australia, said the company has committed to develop its technical sustainment workforce and capacity in the country and the assignment of the work helps demonstrate the growth of Australia’s defense industry.

Irving added that the company’s modernization systems will continue to help foster strategic value creation in Australia’s defense maintenance, repair and overhaul market.

The company has also received an assignment from the joint program office to offer regional F-35 component MRO&U services for the RF Avionics and Composite structures including associated maintenance of low-observable technologies.

The Defense Department granted regional F-35 MRO&U capacity to partner nations in November to support 65 out of 774 repairables outside the continental U.S.
