Lockheed’s Marillyn Hewson Talks Govt-Industry Partnership’s Role in ‘Innovative Entrepreneurship’ at Canadian Aerospace Summit

Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson has said the Canadian government and the aerospace and defense industry should promote entrepreneurship, seek opportunities in emerging markets and create a pipeline of science, technology, engineering and math professionals to advance innovation.

She noted in her speech Tuesday at the Canadian Aerospace Summit that industry and government should make investments in novel technologies in support of “innovative entrepreneurship.”

Hewson, who also serves as president and chairman of the board of directors at Lockheed, cited the opportunities that commercial satellite communications, hybrid airships and demand for renewable energy platforms offer to industry.

She also mentioned Lockheed’s partnership with the University of Calgary and other educational institutions to establish internship programs for STEM students.

Other initiatives that Hewson discussed at the summit include Canada’s involvement in Lockheed’s F-35 fighter jet program, the company’s partnership with the Royal Canadian Navy to equip the country’s Halifax-class frigates with combat systems and the role of Lockheed’s Canadian arm as a systems integrator for the Canadian Surface Combatant program.
