2016lockheedmartinlogoLockheed Martin has joined the NextFlex institute that aims to advance manufacturing processes designed to produce flexible hybrid electronics.

Lockheed has become one of NextFlex’s corporate tier 1 members and named James Libous, head of the company’s enterprise-level advanced electronics technology and innovation strategy, to the institute’s governing council, NextFlex said Monday.

“We look forward to our work with NextFlex on defining the direction of technologies for structural monitoring and robotics and demonstrating their potential through projects with partner organizations,” said Jeff Wilcox, vice president of engineering and program operations at Lockheed.

The Defense Department and FlexTech Alliance established NextFlex in August 2015 as a public-private partnership that seeks to facilitate the development of an FHE manufacturing infrastructure.

NextFlex has at least 50 members that include companies, universities and nonprofit organizations and works to provide members with funds, manufacturing capabilities, workforce development, and technical support in the areas of robotics, structural monitoring and communications.

NextFlex made the announcement two months after it opened an FHE manufacturing institute in Silicon Valley.
