Iridium Communications has been awarded a potential five-year, $45.8 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue to provide communication services in support of the Defense Department‘s tactical, operational and strategic operations.
DoD said Tuesday the follow-on contract has a base value of $8.7 million and covers satellite-based network services in the satellite, ground node, user equipment/terminal software and hardware development, integration and testing areas.
Iridium will also help the department update the Distributed Tactical Communications System Phase 3 and Advanced Concepts Development Support Services.
Work will occur in McLean, Virginia and in Tempe, Arizona through November 2021.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division is the contracting activity and the military service obligated $250,000 in fiscal 2016 research, development, training and evaluation funds at the time of award.
