Neil Green, president of Intel’s federal business, has said the U.S. government has launched programs that seek to leverage the use of high-performance computing platforms.
Green wrote in an FCW opinion piece published Tuesday that President Barack Obama’s National Strategic Computing Initiative and the Cancer Moonshot program are some of the efforts that focus on the use of HPC tools and promote partnerships between industry and government.
“HPC is advancing how health care is delivered by bringing technology and software innovations to bear on accelerating cancer research,†Green said of the Cancer Moonshot initiative.
Green also cited the OpenHPC program, which he says works to facilitate collaboration among industry players to help build an “end-to-end open-source software stack for HPC.â€
He noted that the OpenHPC effort supports one of the strategic objectives of NSCI to establish a “more holistic approach†in support of the development of a “national HPC ecosystem.â€
