Intel has unveiled a new unmanned aerial system designed to perform specifically for light shows in a push to redefine entertainment and create new experiences under the night sky.
Anil Nanduri, Intel vice president and general manager of unmanned aviation systems for the Perceptual Computing Group, wrote in a blog post published Friday 500 Shooting Star drones have been used on a Guinness World Record-setting demonstration in Germany.
The company worked with the Federal Aviation Administration to receive a Part 107 waiver that will provide authorization to fly the drones with one pilot in the U.S. at night to demonstrate choreographed images in the nighttime sky.
“We believe drones are an important computing platform for the future and we are continuing to invest in technologies and companies that will enable us to provide the best compute, sensor, communications and software integration for the growing drone ecosystem,” said Nanduri.
Intel’s drone capacity expansion efforts have included its acquisition of Germany-based MAVinci GmbH and efforts to support the delivery of services to clients in the agriculture, construction, insurance and mining industries.
