Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, a senior vice president at Inmarsat, has said VIP special airlift missions aircraft fleet should adopt commercial Ka-band satellite communications services in support of mission-critical operations of unified combatant commanders and other senior government leaders.
Cowen-Hirsch wrote in a blog post published Thursday that commercial Ka-band satcom networks work to facilitate “interoperability with military satellite resources†for mission planners involved in VIPSAM operations.
She noted that Inmarsat’s Global Xpress is a commercial Ka-band network that works to help users leverage commercial satcom for in-route missions and key functions as well as integrate with military satcom.
Inmarsat offers Global Xpress to U.S. government agencies as a satcom-as-a-service in an effort to facilitate “on-demand access to satellite capability,†she added.
Cowen-Hirsh said that Global Xpress network works to provide users lease capacity on any commercial-off-the-shelf platforms and waveforms as part of an open satcom architecture.
