India looks to purchase $1 billion worth of weapons and equipment from readily available vendors through a fast track purchase process that will bypass prescribed routine acquisition procedures, Defense News reported Thursday.
Vivek Raghuvanshi writes an Indian ministry of defense official told Defense News the country aims to procure various ammunition, assault rifles, thermal-imaging equipment, light machine guns, rocket launchers and anti-tank guided missiles.
The report said an appraisal on Indian defense supplies discovered a shortage in ammunition for T-72 and T-90 tanks, armor-piercing, fin-stabilized, discarding-sabot ammunition and anti-tank rounds as well as Sukhoi-30 and Mi-35 ammunition.
