MUOS-satelliteA pair of Harris-made unfurlable mesh antenna reflectors deployed Oct. 30 on board the fifth U.S. Navy Mobile User Objective System satellite built by Lockheed Martin.

Harris said Tuesday the antennas are the ninth and tenth reflectors the company developed for the military branch’s MUOS constellation to support new satellite functions and legacy operations.

Last week, Lockheed announced it will begin to test MUOS-5 in orbit before the Navy takes over operation of the satellite.

MUOS-5 launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on June 24 to join a group of similar satellites designed to provide voice and data communications to mobile forces.

Harris also has completed delivery of more than 30,000 MUOS-enabled AN/PRC-117G tactical radios to warfighters with software updates, diplexer and an antenna kit.
