Cubic‘s transportation systems business has received a $4.8 million contract modification from the Maryland Transit Administration to update the agency’s automatic fare collection system and set the foundation for new system features.
The company said Tuesday the updated system will work to help MTA accept mobile payments and implement a new customer web portal and integration path with third-party transport services.
“The new system will allow the MTA to manage and control its own destiny, giving it freedom to implement a variety of innovative and integrated solutions now and in the future,” said Ian Newberg, vice president of business development at Cubic Transportation Systems.
CTS will update the AFC software from NextFare 4.0 to the NextFare 7 cloud-based revenue management platform that will replace current functionality from the existing scheme and provide new features such as payment card industry compliant payment application for credit and debit transactions.
The new platform is designed to support new fare policies, offer reporting and analytics capacity as well as help MTA monitor conditions of fare collection equipment to address potential repairs, Cubic noted.
