cyber, computerCharles River Analytics has secured a potential $10.5 million contract from the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity to help IARPA develop an automated system to forecast impending cyber attacks.

Charles River Analytics said Tuesday it will lead an interdisciplinary team of professionals from  Battelle, Raytheon‘s BBN Technologies subsidiary, Assured Information Security, Arizona State University, George Mason University and University of Utah to support IARPA’s Predictive System for Cyber Hostility using Integrated Computational Models initiative.

“The goal is to predict when a company or organization might be attacked and how, which enables them to take defensive measures ahead of time,” said Amy Sliva, a senior scientist at Charles River Analytics and principal investigator for the PSYCHIC effort.

Charles River aims to use its ensemble modeling, natural language processing, cyber attack modeling and predictive analytics experience on the program.

The contract has an 18-month base period of performance and two option years.

IARPA’s office for anticipating surprise introduced a four-year challenge in February 2015 for the development of new technology that will work to predict cyber attacks.
