Airbus’ defense and space business has ordered two additional CAE-built flight simulators for the C295 aircraft under a memorandum of understanding.

Airbus will install one C295 flight simulator at the company’s international training center in Spain and provide the other one for an unnamed aircraft operator, Airbus said Monday.

Gene Colabatistto, president of CAE’s defense and security group, said the company will continue to provide simulation tools designed to train C295 pilots through the transaction, which brings to six the total number of C295 simulators that Airbus procured from CAE.

Airbus-built C295 is a medium transport and surveillance plane that the aerospace company has proposed for Canada’s fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft program.

The C295 aircraft has Pratt & Whitney-made engines and electro-optical systems from L-3 Communications Wescam subsidiary.

Airbus will partner with PAL Aerospace to provide support services for C295 should the Canadian government select the aircraft for the FWSAR program.

CAE also provides training systems, simulators and maintenance training platforms for Airbus’ A330 and A400M transport aircraft.
