An Accenture survey says 70 percent of government agencies evaluate the potential of “emerging” technologies such as advanced analytics, Internet of Things, intelligent process automation, video analytics, biometrics, machine learning and natural language processing.
Accenture said Tuesday the “Emerging Technologies in Public Service” report explores the adoption of emerging technologies in health, social services, justice, revenue, border services, social security and administrative agencies.
The survey included responses from 774 government technology leaders in nine countries: the U.S., Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Singapore and the U.K.
“Agencies need to rotate to the new, embracing the full value of using data to take advantage of the power of social, mobile and self-serve technologies that the world is demanding,” said Terry Hemken, head of Accenture’s health and public service analytics insights for government business.
The report found 25 percent of agencies are moving toward full implementation of emerging technologies.
Accenture added 78 percent of respondents report that deployment of machine learning technologies are underway or completed.
Forty-eight percent of agencies that currently implement advanced analytics technologies said they seek to optimize employees’ work while 80 percent of respondents stated emerging technologies will boost job satisfaction, Accenture said.
Fifty and 49 percent of social security and revenue agencies respectively rank the use of advanced analytics to measure agency performance measurement as top priority.
Data privacy and security efforts represent the most common use for analytics as cited by 52 percent of respondents from border services agencies, 46 percent of revenue organization officials and 39 percent of respondents from social security agencies.
Agencies that identified customer service delivery as top priority include two percent of border service agencies, five percent of social security agencies, six percent of justice agencies, seven percent of revenue agencies and eight percent of administrative functions agencies.
