The White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy has released a request for information in search of ideas on how it can understand potential advantages and disadvantages of data portability.
Alexander Macgillivray, OSTP’s deputy chief technology officer, and Council of Economic Advisers member Jay Shambaugh wrote in a blog post published Friday that the move aims to help users increase their ability to get and use data.
OSTP also seeks potential policy channels to expand data portability through the feedback from consumers, academic and industry researchers and private companies.
Topics OSTPÂ wants to address include the type of data that would be affected by increased data portability, methods to expand data portability, standards for the implementation of data portability and additional information related to data portability policymaking.
Submissions to the request will close on Nov. 23.
