Unisys has secured a potential five-year contract from the Customs and Border Protection to update systems that CBP uses to identify people and vehicles that enter and exit the U.S.
The Integrated Traveler Initiatives contract was awarded as a task order under the Department of Homeland Security-run EAGLE II procurement vehicle and represents an iteration of CBP’s Land Border Integration project awarded to the company in 2010, Unisys said Tuesday.
The company will provide uninterrupted technical support for the LBI technology deployed at CBP’s ports of entry as well as help the agency explore new strategies to maintain and refresh current border security systems.
“By taking advantage of advances in biometrics, cybersecurity and data analytics, CBP can make our borders even safer,” said Amy Rall, vice president for the DHS practice at Unisys’ federal business group.
The ITI project seeks to reduce processing and wait times for travelers that cross the U.S. border and provide flexibility to CBP border agents through the use of mobile devices.
CBP also eyes implementation of automated technology for the agency to measure and report commercial vehicle and traveler wait times, Unisys noted.
The contract contains one base year and four option years.
