Thales Alenia Space will supply a satellite navigation system to the South Korea’s national space agency in an effort to help enhance the country’s positioning system.
The Korea Aerospace Research Institute will use the KASS system built based on Thales Alenia Space’s European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System to provide aeronautical applications and extend its use to maritime, road and rail operations, Thales said Wednesday.
Jean Loic Galle, president and CEO of Thales Alenia Space, said the company intends to help the South Korean space agency and government bodies in the country develop applications designed to provide safety for all types of transportation.
The ground infrastructure from Thales Alenia Space will operate via a relay provided by a current geostationary satellite and the system will also work with other satellite based augmentation systems worldwide.
A French-South Korean team will take responsibility for the project under Thales Alenia Space’s oversight.
