Sutter Health and Validic have teamed up to support a federal pilot project that aims to identify strategies for the delivery of patient-generated health data to medical service providers and researchers.
Validic said Wednesday results of the collaborative effort will help inform government policy and provide insight on how the industry can implement remotely-collected patient health information in the U.S.
The pilot demonstration falls under the Conceptualizing a Data Infrastructure for the Capture, Use, and Sharing of Patient-Generated Health Data in Care Delivery and Research through 2024 project funded by the Department of Health and Human Services‘ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
Accenture‘s federal services business was awarded a contract to help ONC carry out the project, then chose Sutter Health and Validic to guide one of two pilot demonstrations under the initiative.
Validic said Accenture will use data from the study to produce a research paper that will identify and address challenges of patient-generated data usage in clinical settings.
Work that began in September involves patients with Type II diabetes who were given access to Sutter’s Motivating Patients Online with Enhanced Resources application that utilizes Validic’s digital health platform to connect patient care devices.
