Root9B CEO Eric Hipkins has joined the board of advisers at Cybersecurity Ventures and will provide advice to the latter company’s leadership team that includes founder and CEO Steve Morgan.
Hipkins said Thursday that he aims to share root9B’s experience and assist Cybersecurity Ventures’ advisory board to help drive the future of cyber defense.
“We are now placing a greater emphasis on ‘pure play’ cybersecurity firms that focus mainly on advisory, cyber operations, consulting, specialized staffing and support services, and so it makes perfect sense for us to add Eric Hipkins to our board,” Morgan noted.
Hipkins joins other Cybersecurity Ventures advisory board members such as Michelle Finneran Dennedy, vice president and chief privacy officer of Cisco; Robert Herjavec, founder and CEO of Herjavec Group; and John McAfee, founder of McAfee Associates.
Root9B entered into a cooperative research and development agreement with the Department of Homeland Security in January to help DHS develop network defense tools.
The cybersecurity company will also work with Science Applications International Corp. to provide mission support the U.S. Cyber Command and the Defense Department under a subcontract announced in June.
