Personalis has received an additional task order from the Department of Veterans Affairs to perform whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis services as part of VA’s program to study how genetic variations can affect the health of former service members.
The company said Thursday it will use its algorithms and computing infrastructure at the firm’s laboratory in Menlo Park, California to analyze data from VA’s Million Veteran Program.
VA launched the MVP research effort in 2011 with the goal to collect and examine health information and genetic samples from participants.
Personalis CEO John West said the company will continue to work with VA to help the department facilitate medical research sequencing and database efforts.
MVPÂ aims to enroll as many as 1 million veterans over the next four or five years.
The program will leverage VA’s central biorepository that is equipped with a robotic DNA extraction and storage system.
