Lockheed Martin has awarded a potential five-year, $27 million subcontract to an Ultra Electronics subsidiary to engineer and produce MK48 topedo array nose assemblies and spares.
Ultra Electronics said Monday its Ocean Systems business will supply integrated array nose assemblies in an effort to increase the inventory of U.S. Navy‘s MK48 torpedoes.
The subcontract has an initial base period worth $6.6 million and four option years.
Rakesh Sharma, CEO of Ultra Electronics, said the company offers acousticsystems designed to support the undersea warfare missions of U.S. and international naval customers.
The Navy uses MK48 as the primary anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare weapon on the military branch’s submarines.
Ultra added the service branch looks to order more than 250 MK48 torpedoes over the next five years.
