Honeywell and Oklahoma Gas & Electric have partnered to help modernize Tinker Air Force Base under a $19.1 million utility energy service contract funded by future savings generated through modernized systems,
Honeywell said Wednesday the Air Force expects modernization work at the base to finish in December and the updates aim to help Tinker AFB reduce carbon footprint by approximately 196,903 tons over the life of the contract.
Tinker AFBÂ is an aircraft maintenance and repair complex operated by the Air Force Materiel Command.
OG&E and Honeywell will update Tinker AFB’s steam and heating hot water system; chilled water and thermal energy storage system; lighting fixtures; heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; and compressed air system.
Honeywell will also install meter systems to give Tinker AFB access to the Honeywell Energy Manager software that works to show how and where natural gas and electricity is used in operations.
The contract builds on previous energy retrofit work at Tinker AFB and the base has achieved approximately $7 million in annual energy and operating cost savings.
The project aligns with the U.S. Air Force‘s efforts to cut 25 percent of energy consumption by 2025, Honeywell noted.
